How can a car wrap improve your Word-of-Mouth advertising?

I've had dozens of conversations with trade business owners every week and one topic that is often discussed is how they market their business.

“We have been operating on word of mouth for years” is often one of the answers given, so I thought we should discuss the Word-of-Mouth method of marketing and how a Car Wrap can both improve and compliment your Word-of-Mouth outcome.

Word-of-Mouth marketing is when a happy customer recommends your business to someone they know. We have all experienced it from both ends, either telling a friend of a great plumber, builder or electrician we have used, or being told how wonderful an experience a friend had with ‘xyz’ company.

72% of satisfied customers will, on average, tell 6 or more other people about your business and their positive experience (Estaban Kolsky). This is a fantastic result by just providing your service at a level that your customers expect – kind of an added bonus to doing what you should be doing anyway!

Where does a car wrap, truck wrap or van wrap fit into this situation, and how can it improve your Word-of-Mouth marketing?

A large part of Word-of-Mouth marketing is brand retention in your customers mind. There is no point expecting a Word-of-Mouth recommendation if your customer can’t remember your business name – this is where a wrap can play an important role.

Humans are 2.8 times more likely to remember something they say after 72 hours compared to hearing about it only (Stephen Ware). A vehicle wrap is a very visual way of displaying your brand to your customer and only adds to the impact of their good experience and retention of your business name - in order to share it with their friends.

The other positive impact of a wrap is in gaining customers that are not connected to your satisfied customer. While you are working away, doing your job, someone is looking at your vehicle in the street or driveway. The fact that their neighbour is using your business can be enough of a recommendation, even if they never speak to them about it, or it may prompt a question about the work you have just performed.

Remember, every satisfied customer will tell 6 or more people about your business, so if you can gain just 1 customer by having a wrap then you are magnifying your Word-of-Mouth marketing - and the snowball effect that has a source right back to your car wrap begins!
